History of Stony Brook Fellowship PDF Print E-mail

Stony Brook Fellowship began first as a dream in the minds of about 18 people back in 1995. These people were brought together by their common belief that Steinbach needed a different kind of church aimed clearly at reaching the many new people who were, and are, moving to the community. They saw a need for a church that emphasized relationships, caring, and meaningful, inspiring worship.

This small nucleus first began conducting Bible studies and soon thereafter began Sunday services in the spring of 1996. The progress was slow but steady at the beginning. They had no pastor at the time so everyone had to pitch in to make the church a success. This is something they did with zeal. By the spring of 1998 the church had grown to about 40 people. It was clear that if the rate of growth was to be accelerated a pastor was needed. So the church set out in search of a half-time pastor, as that was all they could afford. The Lord led them to call Earl Unger to serve them as their first pastor. He began his ministry November 1, 1998.

The church has seen significant growth since then. Because of the growth and the increased workload this brought, Pastor Earl’s position was made full-time on July 1 of 1999. Presently the church has 85 members and our attendance averages about 180 on Sundays.
