Our Purpose Statement: Why We Exist

The purpose of Stony Brook Fellowship is to worship God and study His Word in the context of discipleship and nurturing fellowship while introducing and reintroducing others to a relationship with God.

Who We Are Trying To Reach

Simply put, we are trying to reach the over-churched and the under-churched (Romans 15:20; 2 Cor. 10:16).  There are many people that have given up on church because of past painful or unfulfilling church experiences. In a sense they have become fed-up with church. By they’re dropping out of the church scene they basically are saying that they have been “over churched.” We are trying to reach these kinds of people by demonstrating that there is a difference between the churches they have tried in the past that are just going through the motions or are dominated by legalism. The other group of people that we feel Stony Brook is well suited at reaching is the person who has no or very little church exposure. In a sense they are “under churched.” To reach people such as these we try to present ourselves, and how we worship and teach the gospel, in a way that they find relevant and meaningful. That is why we emphasize building relationships  at church and through small groups, and by taking a contemporary approach to our services.

Our Focus and Direction

Because we know that we are just imperfect people meeting a loving God, we strive not to allow tradition or inward thinking to stop us from reaching people for Christ (1 Cor. 9:22).

Our ministry focus iis based on two things: meaningful, inspiring worship that celebrates what God is doing in and through us (Eph. 5:19,20; Heb. 10:24,25); and nurturing spiritual growth through small groups and discipleship (Acts 20:20; 2:46).
